Russia Claims Interception of Over 150 Ukrainian Drones in Major Raid

Ukraine has launched one of its largest aerial assaults on Russia since the full-scale conflict began, targeting locations including the capital, Moscow.

Russia claims to have thwarted a “massive” Ukrainian drone attack, intercepting at least 158 drones across 15 regions, including two over Moscow. On Sunday, the Russian defense ministry reported that 46 of these drones were shot down over the Kursk region, which has recently seen significant Ukrainian incursions, marking the largest on Russian soil since World War II.

Russian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed 158 Ukrainian drones overnight, including two over Moscow and nine in the surrounding area, the Defense Ministry announced on Sunday.

Among the intercepted drones, 46 were downed over the Kursk region, which has seen substantial Ukrainian incursions in recent weeks, the largest on Russian soil since World War II. Additionally, 34 drones were destroyed over the Bryansk region, 28 over the Voronezh region, and 14 over the Belgorod region, all of which are near the Ukrainian border.

Drones were also brought down in more central regions of Russia, including one in the Tver region, to the northwest of Moscow, and another in the Ivanovo region, northeast of the capital. The Defense Ministry reported interceptions across 15 regions, with one more drone being downed in an additional area, according to a regional governor.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that debris from one of the drones shot down over the city resulted in a fire at an oil refinery.
